Welcome to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, or UNODC. This committee takes place in the present day, and will address either the topic of doping or human trafficking in South and Southeast Asia. The issue of doping has been an important issue in the past several years, with cases such as banning US athletes from Olympic competition due to recreational drugs to large scandals such as state-sponsored Russian doping showing the importance of addressing anti-doping policy. Human trafficking is an extremely important topic that falls under the purview of the UNODC, and trafficking, including sex trafficking and child trafficking, is especially prevalent in the Indo–Pacific due to high levels of poverty and corruption. As members of UNODC, delegat–s are expected to use creative thinking and collaborative planning to create meaningful policy that creates short–term relief and long–term solutions, even when strategies call for systemic changes. Sports act as a soft power in international relations, and trafficking is a modern epidemic that disrupts and dehumanizes the lives of its victims, so we hope that in our time together, we are able to holistically improve humankind.

NEHA JACOB

Chair

Hello delegates,

My name is Neha Jacob, and I'm really excited to be your UNODC chair! I can't wait to hear your take on these (and more) topics at UCBMUN XXVII. A little bit about me: I'm a senior at UC Berkeley studying Business Administration and Data Science. I'm originally from Bangalore, India, and though I miss home, I've absolutely loved living on the West Coast! Apart from MUN, I tutor children in music, run the marketing department of a Berkeley–based newspaper, and take part in a creative consulting club. In my free time, I love singing with my roommates, going on long walks, and listening to Taylor Swift. I look forward to meeting you all soon!

Good luck,
NEHA JACOB

ARUNA SUDARSHAN

Chair

Hello! My name is Aruna Sudarshan, and I will be your Co–Chair for UNODC! I am a senior studying data science and economics. I am originally from San Diego, California and have been competing on the college circuit for 3 years. I first joined UCBMUN, simply out of curiosity, and quickly fell in love with this activity. It has not only helped me hone my diplomacy and communication skills but also allowed me to find some of my closest friends and make some of my best college memories. Outside of UCBMUN, I consult for high growth startups in the Bay Area. In my free time, I can be found going to concerts, playing the flute and ukulele, singing, drinking too much coffee, traveling, hiking, and setting records for the amount of hours of Netflix watched by one person.

I am incredibly passionate about the scope of this committee, and am excited to see innovative solutions brought to the table and thoughtful debate to address what has been a issue for far too long.

Best,
ARUNA SUDARSHAN
