DISEC: Peace Operations

Background Guide Coming in Jan. 2020

Ruhee Wadhwania

Hello delegates! My name is Ruhee Wadhwania and I am very excited to co-chair DISEC this year at UCBMUN XXVI. The topics covered under our larger umbrella of peace operations are ones that have demanded attention for decades now and failed to receive adequate awareness. We exist in an era of violent extremism that has intensified the repercussions of any action a UN body takes. In debating strategies for executing successful peacekeeping operations, I hope that you are all able to gain an appreciation for the complexities surrounding international conflict resolution. About myself - I am a senior at Cal majoring in public health and economics, and this is my fourth year on the circuit. I had the privilege of being Secretary-General for UCBMUN XXIII last year, and I am now serving as president of this crazy organization. Most of my academic and career focus has been in healthcare economics, or looking at cost or quality-based problems for hospital systems and payors. Fun fact, I recently binged all eight seasons of Game of Thrones in less than two months, so that should tell you how good I am at prioritizing. I’m excited to see all of you and hear about your insightful solutions in February!

Yours,
Ruhee Wadhwania

Avani Yadav

Esteemed delegates - welcome to UCBMUN XXIV! My name is Avani Yadav, and I’m honored to co-chair DISEC this year. In a world of exponential technological growth and international codependency, peacekeeping is more complicated and vital than ever before. The topics of this committee are historically mired in controversy, presenting you all with the challenge of suggesting unique and multifaceted solutions that focus on efficacy. I look forward to tackling the behemoth that is international conflict resolution with you all! On a personal note, I am a sophomore at Cal majoring in Economics and Applied Math, so I spend a lot of time staring at numbers and hoping they’ll figure themselves out. I’m passionate about the intersection of technology and law, and I currently analyze how social media and other open source platforms fit into human rights, international law, and investigative journalism at Berkeley Law. In my free time, I love hiking and listening to the Oh Wonder album for the 800th time. I’m incredibly excited to meet you all this spring, and to watch your brilliant minds at work!

Yours,
Avani Yadav
